How To Construct the Parts of the Course

There are a number of parts that need to be constructed when creating a RoboCup Rescue course.

Tiles: To emulate the National Competition Rescue, tiles are mounted onto boards. The material for the mounting boards can literally be anything. Examples of board material are acrylic which needs to be at least 5mm thick. Acrylic based tiles are great for storage and handling, however, they can move easily in competition and do have a tendency to bend. MDF needs to be at least 9mm thick. This makes them heavy to handle, however, they don't warp and their weight makes a good tightly fitting course with little variation between tile heights. In either case, tiles are kept together during competition using white gaff tape.

To attach the course tiles to the base material, use either spray on contact adhesive on both surfaces. This works well but is time consuming. The better alternative, if you can find it is 3M High-Tack 76, 77 or 90 spray on adhesive. This requires application to one side only and sticks extremely well.

Silver Tape for the finishing tile can be bought from Bunnings in the insulation section. Scotch® Foil Tapes 3311 and 3326.
